Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD)

Empowering Clients in Their Challenging Times

If you aspire to build a career as an Occupational Therapist (OT), then you probably understand the integral role you will play in your client’s recovery process following an accident or injury, chronic health condition diagnosis, and managing short or long-term disability. Most people don’t give much thought to occupations or roles they have until they experience trouble accomplishing them. When life happens, OTs lean in to help clients successfully re-engage back into life.

Leverage our Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) entry-level degree program to start an exciting and fulfilling career. An OTD degree opens the door to additional professional opportunities in the field as students explore more advanced learning in leadership and research. Edgewood College is a private, liberal arts college. The Dominican values of our founders in 1927, the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, continue to provide the blueprint of our mission today. With our strong reputation of commissioning compassionate difference makers in the health care field, this new program aligns with our passion for building professional and personal meaning in the world around - one student and one experience at a time.

Bringing Positive Change in Various Ways, Every Single Day

Why Pursue Occupational Therapy at Edgewood College?

Stay Home, Travel Less

Within the convenience of a hybrid model, our accelerated, entry-level OTD degree program can be completed in two years. While similar programs in the United States are face-to-face, residential, and three years in length, this program has been designed to accommodate for personal situations and responsibilities. Travel to campus is minimal.

Fast Track to Your Degree

Though the curriculum is intense, this accelerated program allows students to complete their degree in a shorter time span. Students will enter the field and begin their careers quicker than traditional OTD programs. Not only does this reduce tuition, but it decreases the timeline to securing a job - and receiving a salary.

  • YEAR 1: Students will participate in didactic learning that is primarily online and visit campus twice each term for an immersive lab experience.
  • YEAR 2: Students will complete the hands-on, clinical phase of the program, which culminates in a capstone project and experience with a community partner. Students will come to campus once each semester.

Career Versatility

The OTD degree provides qualifications that expand into the health professions.

Meet Kelly Alig, PhD, LOTR

Kelly Alig, PhD, LOTR

With thirty years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, Kelly has found the most crucial aspect of generating success in the practice of occupational therapy is the development of the interpersonal relationship between the practitioner and the client. And with more than twenty years of academic experience, she brings this same mindset to her academic leadership style.

“It has been an honor to work in partnership with clients while empowering them during one of the most challenging times of their lives. I have witnessed amazing stories of human motivation and perseverance, and some of the most extreme examples of this include helping clients after Hurricanes Katrina and Ida, and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.  The work we do as practitioners is life-changing, and I look forward to bringing my lived experiences to future practitioners learning in our program.”
