Director of Campus Store & Mail Services
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
This position executes and provides leadership and oversight for all facets of campus store and mail service operations including: hiring, training, supervising, developing and motivating of team members; preparing and executing store and mail service operating plans; establishing and enhancing strong campus relations; guiding course materials activities; maintaining a high-level of customer service; delivering on general merchandise expectations; demonstrating knowledge of Booklog processes and reports and completing other necessary activities as needed.
Responsibilities:
Management and Supervision
- Responsible for recruiting, training, and supervision of full-time and part-time team members. Ensures effective performance management and maintains a culture of accountability. Develops engaged associates with the ability to execute initiatives and drive operational standards and business results. Develops and promotes a team environment and acts as a leader within the store/mail services to all staff levels.
- Prepares and implements detailed operating plans for campus store/mail services for standard operations, busy rush periods, and special events (move-in, tailgate, graduation, etc.). Shares plans with team members and leads/drives them to execution. Analyzes financials and makes determinations regarding how to positively impact future sales/expense opportunities. Plans and prepares for promotions.
- Establishes, enhances, and maintains positive, responsive relationships with campus community, particularly students, campus administration, faculty and staff. Seeks out new ways to partner with campus departments in providing promotional merchandise, and clothing.
- Provides oversight and guidance and/or executes all facets related to MBS Direct online textbook system utilized by faculty and students, including reaching out to and gathering course adoptions from faculty.
- Provides oversight and guidance to mail services lead. Assists all mail center team members in maintaining competitive and accurate postal/shipping procedures and processes.
Collaboration and Leadership Responsibilities
- Prepares and delivers interactive session for all Eagle Enrollment and STAR days outlining course material purchasing process. Assists advisors with instructions for ordering course materials.
- Acts as point person for the Nursing Department; research, order, price and stock branded nursing attire and all post-bac nursing textbooks for the Henry Predolin School of Nursing.
- Develops a customer-centric experience and engages team members in the delivery/execution of that objective. Provides highest levels of customer service within the store/mail center and in all interactions with stakeholders.
- Participates in the execution of store-specific projects, such as renovations and reorganizations, and assists in all projects relating to the store.
- Participates as a member of the College Commencement Committee.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Ensures all back-office functions, including the preparation of invoices, process of chargebacks and coordination of stock shipments are completed in accordance with college directives and/or policies and procedures.
- Research appropriate vendors; schedules and attends buying sessions in the Spring and early Fall.
- Monitors inventory levels and establishes inventory controls for the campus store and mail center.
- Continuously monitors industry benchmarks and explores new sales initiatives.
- Prepares and analyzes financial reports including sales projections, budgets, and cost of operations.
- Implements buying policies and procedures for appropriate merchandise to be stocked in the campus store, including Online sales, refund and exchanges, cash handling and reporting policies.
- Purchases and sets pricing of all merchandise, including office supplies for the campus store and mail center.
- Maintains a neat and orderly appearance of campus store; controls inventory and storage space according to established policies.
- Performs full inventory of campus store and mail center at the end of June.
- Supervises work-study students, and other staff, maintains schedules, approves timecards and forwards to Business Office according to established procedures.
- Coordinate online and in-store ordering of graduation attire and announcements; prepares all attire to be distributed to students and attends commencement to assist students.
- Develops and creates marketing materials to promote the campus store.
- Assists campus departments and student organizations, when possible, by supplying products, services and donations in support of their programs and events.
- Participates in regular professional development opportunities
- Performs other duties as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience
- Retail management or strong customer service experience; academic retail experience a plus.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Progressive and entrepreneurial spirit with willingness to adapt to constantly changing buying patterns and preferences of students.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and be detail oriented.
- Must be able to solve problems, resolve conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.
- Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills; strong customer service, communication and presentation skills; strong analytical skills and financial acumen.
Required Technology Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of SharePoint is a plus.
- Proficiency in Booklog POS system is a plus.
