Cutting Edge Alumni Program Coordinator
Description of Job
The Cutting Edge Alumni Program Coordinator works with alumni of the Cutting Edge Program, an inclusive post-secondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position will support Cutting Edge alumni by promoting inclusion in the community and providing direct independent living and employment support according to the individual’s needs. The Alumni Program Coordinator also collaborates with community partners and families of alumni.
Responsibilities:
Alumni Support
- Meets with alumni on a weekly or biweekly basis in accordance with their membership level
- Assists alumni in obtaining housing if needed
- Provides or coordinates support for alumni in the area of independent living: skill development in cleaning, shopping, budgeting, cooking, etc.
- Assists alumni in obtaining employment if needed, in partnership with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and community vocational agencies
- Provides or coordinates support for alumni in the area of employment: job coaching, creating on-the-job resources or tools, communicating with vocational agency or employer, etc.
- Assists alumni in obtaining a transportation provider if needed
- Provides or coordinates support for alumni in the area of transportation: bus/cab training, mapping routes, learning new technologies, scheduling rides, etc.
Alumni Program Coordination
- Collaborates with the Assistant Director for Student Transition and Independent Living & Employment Coordinator in identifying alumni accommodations and needs for post-graduation life
- Participates in Individualized College Planning meetings of senior students
- Assists senior students or alumni and their families in identifying a membership level of support that best suits the individual’s needs
- Communicates with families of alumni through emails, phone calls, and formal monthly progress reports
- Creates and maintains community partnerships (Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, vocational agencies, IRIS (Wisconsin long-term care services), Aging & Disability Resource Center, LOV, Inc., therapeutic services, etc.)
- Creates and distributes a monthly alumni newsletter
- Events
- Plans Cutting Edge Reunion every five years
- Plans and execute at least 2 alumni social events per month
- Plans/Executes weekly interest group with Alumni
- Movie Night, Game Night, Fitness Night (pickleball, walk, etc)
- Partners with Assistant Director for Student Transition to carry out program events related to alumni, such as the Concluding Ceremony and Commencement
- Attends Cutting Edge program events as assigned
College Service
- Represents the Division of Student Development on division wide and/or institutional committees, task forces and groups
- Serves as a member of Student Development staff meetings and retreats
- Participates in campus events as a department and division representative
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree, in Special Education, Rehabilitation Psychology, Vocational Rehabilitation, or related field
- Required: Prior work experience with individuals with disabilities
- Minimum of two years of work experience with individuals with disabilities
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to co-manage multiple alumni schedules
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Specialized Technology Skills:
- Ability to learn and understand assistive technology
- Ability to maintain data on spreadsheets
