The Computing & Information Sciences (CIS) Department in the School of Liberal Arts, Education, and the Sciences at Edgewood College invites applications for an adjunct teaching position for the Fall 2024 semester.

Responsibilities

The individual appointed in this position will be able to teach the following undergraduate level course face to face in a traditional semester-based format:

Teach one or both sections of CS 150 Computing & Business Applications, scheduled at:

  • Tues, Thurs 10:30-11:50 AM and/or
  • Mon, Wed 12:30-1:50 PM

This course is designed to provide students in-depth skills in business productivity systems including Microsoft Office Suite as well as necessary Information Literacy skills. Through a set of case studies and tutorials, main attention is given to the use of Excel in the business world. Students will learn how to create professional data-driven workbooks, and leverage Microsoft Excel’s power with formulas and a variety of time-saving functions; professionally format worksheets; create charts, tables, and Pivot Tables; utilize advanced functions and apply conditional formatting; work with multiple worksheets, workbooks, and templates; incorporate data validation; utilize worksheet protection; create macros; export and cleanse data sets; and perform what-if analysis with Data Tools, Scenario Manager, and Forecasting.   This course is strongly recommended to students who seek a Business degree.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of Windows and initial familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.

Job Qualifications

Necessary Education or Work Experience

  • MS, ABD, or earned doctorate in Computer Science, or Computer Information Systems, Data Science, or a relevant field; or hold a master’s or doctorate degree in a non-relevant field and have at least 3-5 years of industry/research/teaching experience in the field of data science and analytics/computing/business analytics, working comprehensively with Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology into the classroom experience.
  • Experience working with undergraduates in the classroom.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with department peers and others on campus.
