Art

About Art

Edgewood College offers opportunities for all students to engage in the study and practice of visual art and design. Art majors and minors will be prepared for careers, continued study, civic engagement, and lifelong practice. Our students and faculty are fostered and developed by Gold LEED certified studios and resources in The Stream, including green studio practices and the Edgewood College Gallery. Visual art majors include multiple areas for skill development: art and design, art education, art history, art therapy, graphic design, and web design. Our mission is to develop students’ creativity, aesthetic awareness, technical skills, capacity for visual thinking, and imagination. We promote risk taking, courage and patience to align these skills with the college mission to build a resilient, just and more compassionate world.

We are committed to innovation and excellence in our programs and to preparing our majors to be successful in science-related careers that are vital for meeting future local, national and global needs.

Religious Studies

About Religious Studies

Rooted in the Catholic and Dominican traditions where “faith seeks understanding,” Religious Studies at Edgewood College employs academic inquiry, scholarly research, experiential learning, and intellectual reflection to examine the religious experience and its multiple expressions. In so doing, we develop our critical intellectual capacities, expand our understanding of ourselves and our world, deepen our own spiritualties and commitments, and cultivate genuine respect and appreciation for the truths and values expressed in the traditions and spiritualties of others.

Theatre Arts

About Theatre Arts

Edgewood College Theatre presents an annual season of productions for the students, the college community and the greater community of Madison. We rotate our offerings to provide a wide range of theatrical experiences, time periods, genres, voices and lenses for both our students and our audiences.

These productions create an educational and artistic environment that nurtures creativity, academic integrity and professionalism. The productions also serve as the context in which classroom and studio work combine with performance as we collaboratively share our vision and ideas with the community, our audiences.

We strive to give students hands-on opportunities to learn theatre by doing theatre–both onstage and behind the scenes; to practice green theatre techniques by leaving a light footprint on the earth; to serve the students we have at the highest level while always seeking to enrich the diversity of our talent pool, artists and theatrical offerings; and to uphold the Sinsinawa Dominican values and mission to serve.
