Our program is designed for anyone with a baccalaureate degree who wishes to complete the coursework for a second degree in accounting. It also allows for easy transition into our Master of Science in Accounting program. Our flexible, evening classes are designed for working adults, so you can fit in classes without quitting your job.

The Post-Baccalaureate BS in Accounting prepares students for careers as accountants and auditors across business sectors and industries. Students must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any field from a regionally-accredited college or university to gain entry to this major.

Our curriculum provides a deep understanding of the complex and dynamic world of accounting, preparing you for careers in public accounting in audit and tax, private accounting, governmental and not-for-profit accounting.

BUS 307 – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance I

The first of a two-semester, academic and experiential series, BUS 307 introduces students to different types of tax systems while presenting diverse perspectives on what makes up a fair and just tax system. This course will explore how culture plays a role in the development of tax systems both in the US and internationally. We will also discuss how government uses taxes to influence behavior and promote social goals. During this 8-week session, you will also complete the Department of Revenue certification required to volunteer at the IRS sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites during the spring semester. VITA provides free tax service to clients in need, generally low-income, handicapped and/or the elderly.

CS 150 I – Computing & Business Applications

This course is designed to provide students in-depth skills in business productivity systems including Microsoft Office Suite as well as necessary Information Literacy skills. Through a set of case studies and tutorials, main attention is given to the use of Excel in the business world. Students will learn how to create professional data-driven workbooks, and leverage Microsoft Excel’s power with formulas and a variety of time-saving functions; professionally format worksheets; create charts, tables, and Pivot Tables; utilize advanced functions and apply conditional formatting; work with multiple worksheets, workbooks, and templates; incorporate data validation; utilize worksheet protection; create macros; export and cleanse data sets; and perform what-if analysis with Data Tools, Scenario Manager, and Forecasting.

Basic knowledge of Windows and initial familiarity with Microsoft Office suite. This course is strongly recommended to students who seek a Business degree.

ORG 494 3 – Ethical Leadership in Organizations

This course provides students with active, engaged learning experiences involving organizational psychology as a science for improving human welfare. Students are exposed to a framework for ethical decision making drawn from the disciplines of organizational psychology, philosophy, and business/management that is intensively explored through assigned reading, interactive classroom discussions, and experiential exercises involving application of course concepts to an organizational situation. The major project in the course is a n organizational study that each student pursues at a site of his/her choosing. These projects allow students to vigorously apply the framework for ethical decision making. Engaged learning, interdisciplinary inquiry, and values exploration characterize this project.

How do I apply for this program?

New students may enroll in the fall, spring, or summer semesters. Application deadlines:
Fall – August 1
Spring – January 1
Summer – May 1

To be considered for admission, applicants must provide the following:

Completed application. This application is for students who want to pursue a Master’s degree, certificate, or take courses as a non-degree seeking student. The graduate application fee is waived for graduates of Edgewood College and for veterans.
Official transcripts reflecting completion of a baccalaureate from a United States regionally accredited or equivalent post-secondary institution with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. The cumulative grade point average is computed on the highest degree held at the time of application.

International Students

International students are eligible to apply for the program.

What are the admission requirements for this program?

Students must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university.

In addition to holding a bachelor’s degree, applicants must have either completed or be currently enrolled in the following courses (or transfer equivalents) at the time of application:

COMMS 100 O – Introduction to Communication or equivalent.
ENG 110 W – College Writing or equivalent.
MATH 121 M – Statistics or equivalent.
BUS 396 – Business Math or equivalent.
Approved College-Level Critical Thinking Skills Course.
