Madison, Wis. (March 31, 2025) – When Edgewood College names its next Director of Athletics, that person will be the first to hold the title for the Eagles of Edgewood University.
Suann Saltzberry, the current Director, is stepping into a new role at Edgewood College, which will include work in Institutional Advancement.
“Suann has served as Director of Athletics for the past two years – and as Assistant Director for more than 10 years prior to that. All told she has served our student-athletes in various roles for nearly 20 years and is without peer as a leader in our community,” President Manion, said. “She is a distinguished alumna. As a multisport student-athlete herself, she has been a tireless mentor for our students and graduates. She is – and will remain – a significant force on our campus, and across the communities we serve.”
A national search for the next Director is underway. That leader has a great challenge ahead: student-athletes currently comprise more than one-third of the total undergraduate student population. In November 2024, Edgewood College announced the addition of the Women’s Bowling team, set to launch in 2025-2026. That addition means the Eagles will compete in 21 sports at the NCAA Division III level. Planning and development continues at the Athletics and Wellness Campus in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. The forty-acre site, located seven miles from the Monroe Street campus, will be the new home for Eagles Athletics.
Earlier this year President Manion announced the renaming of the institution to Edgewood University.
“In 2027, we will celebrate 100 years of advancing our mission since our founding by the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa,” he said in January. “As we position the institution to flourish in our second century, the time is right to celebrate by making this change to honor our past, and to embrace the future.” The Board of Trustees, and the leadership council of the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa have approved the new name, which will take effect July 1, 2025.
Edgewood College shares the 55-acre campus on Monroe Street with Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart, and with the Edgewood Campus School. Located in the heart of Madison, the campus takes its name from the ‘Edgewood Villa’ property, which was gifted to the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa by former Wisconsin Governor Cadwallader Washburn in 1881.
