Madison, Wis. (February 21, 2024) – Edgewood College celebrates the announcement of Dr. Joe Gothard ’99, MA ’04, Ed.D. ’15 as the 2024 National Superintendent of the Year by the America Association of
School Administrators (AASA). Dr. Gothard is a three-time Edgewood College alum, earning his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and Biology, master’s degree in Educational Administration, and his doctorate in
Educational Leadership. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Edgewood College.

Dr. Gothard was one of four finalists for the National Superintendent of the Year Award. He was first nominated by his state association as the State Superintendent of the Year and was selected as the 2024 Minnesota
Superintendent of the Year.

Dr. Gothard began his teaching career as a biology teacher at La Follette High School. He also served as a dean of students, middle school principal, high school principal, and assistant superintendent with the Madison
Metropolitan School District. He then served as the Superintendent of the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District for four years. Dr. Gothard has served as Superintendent of the Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) since
2017.
