Madison, Wis. (February 25, 2023) – Edgewood College is partnering with Madison Country Day School (MCDS) to host their second annual Summer Research Academy.
Students from MCDS and the public have the opportunity to explore areas of science in a more in-depth manner, going beyond what is taught in a typical high school classroom.
“The Summer Research Academy matches Edgewood College faculty with high school students to engage in authentic research experiences. This is an opportunity for faculty to share their research with the community in a
meaningful way, and a great experience for students to learn scientific lab techniques,” said Rachael Lancor, Science Teacher and Research Program Coordinator at MCDS.
There are three goals for the Summer Research Academy; learn about a new area of scientific research from experts in the field, design and carry out your own scientific investigation, and reflect on the process of doing
science and develop research skills that will be useful throughout your academic career.
“The Summer Research Academy is a unique opportunity for faculty at Edgewood College to form collaborations that strengthen science education for young people and bring awareness of our programs to the community,” said
Jake Griffin, Division Head and Associate Professor of Biological Sciences. “Partnerships with high schools in particular, such as the Summer Research Academy, have the added benefit of placing Edgewood College on the
radars of local college-bound high school students.”
Various science research experiences are offered in summer programs. Visit MCDS Summer Research Academy to register
and find more information on the programs.
