Madison, Wis. (March 31, 2017) – Phil Martin, Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre Arts, recently celebrated the publishing of Play Hard – Have Fun, A Philosophy for Life.

The book explores “the deep feeling of joy experienced through the hard work put into pursuing a valued goal,” Martin said. “Not by focusing on the outcome, but on the progress and process of understanding that true success comes from within.”

Martin’s academic expertise includes Theatre History and Musical History. He has a Ph.D. and M.F.A. from the University of Utah, and a B.A. from Colorado State University.

He has served students on stage and in the classroom at Edgewood College for more than twenty years. He is a member of the Theatre Guild of America and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

A published songwriter and playwright, his works include The Wisconsin Story for the sesquicentennial of Wisconsin and Songs of the Orphan Train Riders. His most recent project is
Fatherhood: the Musical.
