I am the oldest of 5 children and the first in my family to attend college. Scholarships allow me to focus less on the finances, and more on my studies. I love being a part of a service based community and because of scholarships – because of you - I have time to give back to the community. I’m proud to say that after my third Bonner Leader/Americorps term, I’ve completed more than 900 hours of community service with 30 different organizations. Your gift has opened up my mind, my time and my heart to pursue my passion of giving to others – it’s pushed me to grow both in my faith and knowledge of diversity. Simply put – I wouldn’t be here without you.

Nursing
I’m a mom – a wife – a returning adult student – an employee – a scholarship recipient. Like a lot of us, finding time to balance all that life brings is tough. Your support means I can go to class and study hard, work a little less, and still have time to throw off my scrubs and make it to the 4:00 football games for my sons. In May, I will graduate with the skills, confidence, and compassion I need to provide for my family and the patients and families I will serve. On behalf of my family, my boys, and the thousands of families I will serve as a nurse, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope to someday be able to follow in your footsteps by providing scholarships to deserving students – just as you have done for me and my family.

Going to a private college wasn’t my first choice. My thinking was college is expensive and I didn’t want to burden my parents. When my dad lived in Mexico, he was only able to finish middle school. My mom received her high school degree. Because of your gifts and the hard work of my family, I am breaking the cycle and will graduate with a college degree. I am the oldest in my family. I am hoping I will lead my two brothers and one sister with the good choices I am making. I know I will leave here with the leadership skills I need to be an active citizen of the world. Edgewood College wasn’t my first choice – it was my best choice.
