President Andrew P. Manion

Andrew P. Manion, Ph.D. became President of Edgewood College on June 1, 2020. While Dr. Manion’s attention during his first months was occupied largely by efforts to steer Edgewood College through the pandemic, his leadership has been marked by a strategic framework that informs decision-making and a path toward our 2nd century of educating students.

About Andrew P. Manion, Ph.D.

Andrew P. Manion, Ph.D. previously served as President of Marian University from 2016- 2020. Under his leadership, the university successfully completed a $12 million capital campaign, enjoyed significant growth in first-year student enrollment, expanded
academic and athletics facilities, and made significant strides in the areas of diversity, inclusion, and social justice.

Prior to that work, he served for nearly 20 years in multiple academic and administrative roles at Aurora University, including Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Provost, and Executive Vice President.

Dr. Manion served on the faculty of Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota from 1991 to 1998, first as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, then as Director of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies, and as Associate Dean of Humanities.

Dr. Manion holds a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology and a Master of Arts in Psychology from Adelphi University in Long Island, New York. He is a graduate of St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis. where he majored in Psychology. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, he is married to his wife Amy, and both are proud parents of Jack, Kevin, and Clare

Edgewood College will be organized to best serve our student’s goals, ambitions, intellectual and spiritual growth, and academic objectives, being cognizant and respectful of their backgrounds and circumstances, personal and professional goals, interests and values, and reasons for attending. We will organize our institutional structures, personnel, and activities in such a way as to best serve the needs of all our current students, as well as those we aspire to serve. Serving our students ultimately includes guiding them to become responsible, ethical, positive contributors to society and a source of pride for all the Edgewood College community and for our sponsors.

Edgewood College is a sponsored ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, who teach us that at the heart of ministry is relationship. This priority looks to strengthen relationships within the college so that we will be most effective in achieving our mission. Edgewood College opened in September 1927 as a liberal arts junior college for women. At that time our chief administrator was also our Academic Dean, Sr. Marie Aileen Klein. Five nominal presidents served between 1927 and 1950, but over the course of that period, the administration of Edgewood College was in the hands of the Deans. In 1940 Edgewood College became an accredited, four-year institution.
