Description of Job

The Arts Division of Edgewood College is seeking applicants for a tenure-track or non-tenure track position to teach courses in our Art programs. Specialty open, but this position serves primarily to fill teaching needs in the foundational and advanced studio arts and design courses for our Art and Design Teaching and Graphic and Web Design majors. The person in this position will also grow and manage student/community outreach for Art programs.

Responsibilities

  • Offer undergraduate courses that include some combination of 2D, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Web Design, and/or other studio-based courses; possibly contribute to curriculum development in specialty area.
  • Maintain, manage, and grow our outreach activities, including pathway agreements and internships in Art and Design.
  • Conduct student teaching observations for Art & Design Teaching majors; work with the Education Division to coordinate this major
  • Advise students, provide timely feedback on learning assessments and portfolios
  • Participate in college committee work, including assessment work, and engage in the responsibilities of a full-time faculty appointment, including Arts events organized in the Division.

Job Qualifications

Necessary Education or Work Experience

  • MFA, doctorate, or equivalent of terminal degree from an accredited institution in a discipline relevant to at least one of the key areas identified
  • Teaching experience
  • Demonstrated success in creating community connections for growing arts programming, and preparing and engaging students in community-centric activities
  • Excellent grasp of foundational studio arts and/or design practice, theories, and methodologies
  • Commitment to meeting student needs and showcasing expertise in a creative discipline

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, flexibility, mature judgment, and a commitment to teaching in a creative, collaborative and values-based environment with a focus on promoting individual student success
  • Strong technical skills in presenting materials to students
