Director of Capstone and Research
Description of Job
The Director of Capstone and Research holds a faculty appointment and has administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program. The incumbent will enhance the scholarly productivity of the Occupational Therapy degree students and oversees the research coursework within the Occupational Therapy degree program, including Capstone projects.
The Director of Capstone and Research is a hybrid position. The faculty appointment is remote, however, the incumbent is required to come to campus 1-2 times per semester for immersive labs.
The incumbent must reside or be willing to relocate to one of the following states upon hire: Wisconsin, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, North Caroline, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, or Virginia.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the Capstone Coordinator for the program and will collaborate and mentor student’s scholarly agendas.
- Provides strategic leadership for a program that develops sound scientific inquiry skills for all students.
- Provides guidance and direction related to research-based curriculum requirements of the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program.
- Teaching and mentoring activities within the Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree program may be assigned.
- Provides oversight of student scholarly activities within the program.
- Coordinates placement of students and secures appropriate supervision as outlined by ACOTE standards for Capstone Projects.
- Oversees student research activities to include research proposals and IRB reviews and dissemination.
- Assures there is appropriate guidance for student research activities.
- Serves as a liaison to the College’s office and committees related to research, grants, compliance and other sponsored programs.
- Provides primary oversight of the Program Assessment Plan and ACOTE Self Study report.
Job Qualifications
Necessary Education or Work Experience
- Earned terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities or Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree with specialization in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities.
- Must be an Occupational Therapist with an active, unrestricted license in Wisconsin or the state of residence.
- Must have an independent scholarly agenda.
- Participate in community and professional service appropriate to a college faculty member.
- Familiarity of Institutional Review Board policies and procedures.
- Experience consistent with the assignment of faculty rank.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in occupational therapy clinical education.
- Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of occupational therapy.
- Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.
