Adjunct Instructor of Astronomy

Description of Job

The Department of Chemistry, Geoscience, & Physics at Edgewood College invites applications for an adjunct teaching position for the Spring 2022 semester. We are searching for a candidate to teach PHYS 150 S – Survey of Astronomy. The course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 - 8:50 pm. There is also an expectation for some additional time spent on astronomical observing. 


The course is a modern exploration of the physical universe. Topics include the sky and celestial motions, our solar system, nebulae, galaxies, and cosmology with emphasis on origin and evolution. Observing sessions may be required outside of scheduled class time. Cross-listed GEOS 150 S

Please note: we are also searching for an adjunct instructor for PHYS 130 S – Physics of Energy, Force, and Motion (see separate posting). Candidates may apply for both positions.

Job Qualifications

Necessary Education or Work Experience

  • A Master’s or Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses
  • Experience leading observations using telescopes

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • An enthusiastic, reflective approach to teaching
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
