Adjunct Instructor – Cell Biology

Description of Job

The Division of Biological Sciences at Edgewood College invites applications for a part-time adjunct instructor to teach introductory cell biology in the Fall of 2024.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an instructor to teach both the lecture and laboratory components of an introductory cell biology course. This course has a traditional, face-to-face format that is managed though an online LMS. For each of two sections, lecture is three days per week for one hour and lab is one day per week for 3 hours.  The selected candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and grading formative and summative assessments. 

Course Description: This is a one-semester exploration of the biological chemistry of the human cell organized around the unifying theme of the relationship of chemistry of biomolecules to the functional biology of a cell. Topics include the nature of science, biochemistry of water, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids, cellular structures, energy transformations in the cell, mitosis, meiosis, relationship between genotype and phenotype, transmission genetics and cancer. The material is covered in a combination of lecture, discussion and laboratory. A semester long project in the laboratory will be used to allow students to engage in scientific inquiry. 

Job Qualifications

Necessary Education or Work Experience

  • Candidates must have a Master’s Degree or ABD in biology or a closely related field; a PhD is preferred. 
  • Experience teaching introductory biology is highly preferred.
