Adjunct Instructor – Legal Environments

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The School of Business at Edgewood College invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach Legal Environments for the Fall 2018 semester. This course, BUS 504 is a foundational requirement in the MBA program. This course is also cross listed as UABUS 314 as a core component of the Adult College Completion program.  BUS 504 meets on Thursdays, 5:30pm – 9:30pm from August 21, 2018 through October 11, 2018 at the Deming Way Campus of Edgewood College.

Within the content of BUS 504, students are presented an overview of the role and methodology of the legal environment within which business must operate. Topics will include a) the essential elements of a contract including mutual assent, consideration, legality, capacity and compliance with the statute of frauds; b) other introductory legal concepts of agency, bailments, sales under the uniform commercial code, negligence and product liability; and c) property law including Wisconsin’s Marital Property Law. In addition, the student will use current technology in completing a legal research project involving the operation of our legal system in the context of its relationship to a current social and ethical issue.

Responsibilities:

Teach one or more stand-alone course sections; evaluate student progress and assign grades; meet with students outside of class as needed. Instructor will participate in periodic instructor meetings under the direction of a tenure-track member of the department and must adhere to established learning outcomes and may use existing course materials, but function independently. Sample syllabi will be provided to assist in the development of the course.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Education or Work Experience:

Master’s degree in Business related field required; J.D., Ph.D., or work toward Ph.D. preferred. Preferred experience leading graduate-level coursework.  Candidate must demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence with a focus on student learning through active and applied strategies.
